BACHELOR ASSIGNMENT
The municipality of Enschede is planning to create a brooklet through the city, called “The Stadsbeek”. The brooklet provides a sustainable solution to water-related problems in the city’s districts of Pathmos and Stadsveld. In this assignment, a bridge over the small brooklet, Stadsbeek, is designed. A combination of technical knowledge, design skills and decisions result in a well-designed feasible concept.
The final design is a slender shaped bridge with a friendly and inviting character. The curved asymmetric form of the bridge highlights the continuously flowing water. The fence is inspired by the surrounding architecture of the public space. The bridge is based on a modular construction so the modular bridge elements can be configured to suit the length and width at various locations. This results in familiarity. In addition, the unique character of the environmental design of the bridge improves the quality of the public space.
