The EeStairs Design Competition 2015 challenged to enhance the function of the staircase in a corporate environment. The evolution of the corporate environments and the changing behavior of employees activities are analysed according to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Nowadays, the corporate environments requires an inspirational space. Improving the employees well-being, increases the quality of their output. The focus point is to bring the outdoors inside and to invent an inspiring space to motivate staff. So, the goals are: 1) add functionality; 2) an inspirational approach; and 3) merge landscape and building.

 

The inspiration behind the final design is the beautiful terraced rice fields of Vietnam, in Asia. In bright green, the spectacular scenery refreshes the brain. Integrated in the corporate environment it enhances this effect and gives the staff a new/fresh mood. Clean and pure materials are used to recreate a topography that, as in real landscapes, molds the shape of land or water, guides our walking and provides a natural experience to the context of the product. By way of its shape, materials and construction technique, the STAIRSCAPE is an inspiring design and has a smoothing effect that motivates the staff.
