SNEAKER DESIGN

The design challenge is to design a sneaker with innovative nostalgia: designing the future by referring to the past. Early shoe designs were rooted in their utility, especially in terms of their application to a given sport. But, over time (especially in the 1950s), sneaker design became more concerned with fashion. Nowadays, sneakers are a familiar part of the modern casual wardrobe.

During the design case, the Eger's theory of Evolutionairy Product Development is applied. This theory helps to analyse how products come about and develop over time. The analysis showed that the product stage of individualization and awareness overlap each other, and it takes place now.

The sneaker is connected to a wide range of historical developments and the product can only be understood if it is placed into a broader socio-technical and cultural framework. At every turn, it is necessary to look at how the sports shoe fitted into the networks of technology, fashion, consumption, commerce, politics, and social attitudes.

The final concept consist of the ideas of a dynamic and stabile sole. I took that and modernized it by making the shape out of futuristic elements. It gives the sneaker that sporty look. The shape is created asymmetric to match the foot. Many shoes at this time intend to match the foot to improve ‘foot health’, adapting the shape of shoes to mirror the foot more closely.
